SoilRay

Realtime 3D + 4D Soil Nutrient Analysis & Visualisation

Active R&D — Sensor Fusion Phase

Overview

SoilRay gives farmers something they've never had: the ability to see inside their soil in real-time, in three dimensions, and track how nutrients change over time (the 4th dimension). Using a combination of near-infrared spectroscopy, electrical impedance tomography, and machine learning, SoilRay builds a live 3D nutrient map of any field — showing exactly where nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and micronutrients are concentrated, depleted, or moving.

3D Nutrient Mapping

SoilRay doesn't just test a single sample — it scans the entire field volume. Multiple sensor modalities are fused together to create a continuous 3D model of nutrient distribution from the surface down to 60cm depth.

Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy for organic matter, nitrogen, and carbon content
Electrical impedance tomography for moisture and mineral distribution
Multi-depth probes that scan at 10cm intervals down to 60cm
Machine learning models trained on 200,000+ soil samples from West African soils
Resolution of 1m² horizontal × 10cm vertical — field-scale precision

4D Temporal Tracking

The '4D' in SoilRay is time. By repeatedly scanning the same field across seasons, SoilRay builds a temporal nutrient model — showing how nutrients move, deplete, and regenerate over weeks, months, and crop cycles.

Track nitrogen depletion rates through the growing season
Identify phosphorus fixation zones where applied fertiliser gets locked up
Monitor potassium leaching patterns after heavy rainfall
Predict optimal fertiliser application timing based on depletion trends
Historical data builds a soil 'health score' that improves over time

Visualisation & Integration

Raw data is useless if farmers can't act on it. SoilRay processes all sensor data into intuitive 3D visualisations and actionable recommendations delivered through a mobile app.

Interactive 3D nutrient heatmaps viewable on any smartphone
Layer toggle: view nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, pH, and moisture independently
Automated 'prescription maps' that tell FarmRover exactly where and how much to spray
Integration with FarmRover for closed-loop precision fertilisation
Exportable reports for agricultural advisors and extension workers
